Marketing 101: Stuff You Gotta Know

By

Joe Newbie always wanted to own a business so he bought a restaurant. Why a restaurant? Because he loved to cook and eat!

He spent way too much money on the purchase price and his operational budget was on a shoestring; by necessity, all meals and condiments had to be made from scratch in order to save money. No problem, “home made” can be great! Besides, Joe could do it because he loved to cook and eat!

However, Joe decided he couldn’t afford a recipe book either. How hard can it be he thought? He loved to cook and eat; he could figure out his OWN recipes.

As customers came and went, Joe was constantly tweaking and testing his recipes. Sometimes he’d hit on something that looked pretty good but tasted awful – or visa versa.

Joe was learning a hard life lesson about reinventing the wheel.

There’s no need here to continue describing Joe’s complete crash and burn.

I made the same mistake with Internet marketing Joe made in his restaurant. I’m not alone though; you very likely are doing the same.

What aspect of Internet MARKETING do new Internet MARKETERS most neglect? You guessed it – Marketing.

Marketing is an abstract concept. Beginners would rather spend time on building their products and making their sites pretty. 99% of beginning marketers all but completely neglect the true marketing side of Internet marketing. They aren’t lazy. They simply don’t have a clue what marketing really is or means…much less how to apply the concept to their business.

99% of new marketers have only a vague understanding of marketing psychology. 99% of beginning marketer get frustrated and quit before ever making even $100 online. Hmmm, do you think there’s a pattern there?

Luckily, I stumbled upon Dan Kennedy fairly early in my online career. Dan’s World completely changed my perspective on the process. He has a unique ability to take you inside the customer’s mind to understand why sales are made or not made.

Just like Joe, most of us thought we could be great marketers simply because we had plenty of experience “buying stuff”. We all have been hit over the head so many times with marketing, it should be easy for us to duplicate for our own benefit. Right? Good luck with that!

Joe was sort of on the right track. Home grown marketing and cooking can work great. But how about we take a tried and proven recipe and THEN tweak and test it to make something unique that works for us? Doesn’t that sound like a better plan than building that wheel from scratch?

Marketing is the same. Dan teaches those tried and proven marketing recipes for success that anyone in any business can tweak and make unique for their own business.

Great marketing is not that difficult to create…but you gotta KNOW the beginning recipes! Otherwise, frustration will catch up and you’ll land in that 99% group we talked about earlier.

I began with Dan’s monthly newsletter. Then my wife and I joined the local chapter meetings in Oklahoma City . Now we have also joined one of Dan’s mastermind groups. Each of these requires money from us each month. If what we learned from each didn’t MAKE us money, we of course wouldn’t continue spending the monthly fees.

Dan gives you 2 free months of his newsletter just for asking…plus a bunch of other videos and downloads which introduce you to his marketing genius.

Remember me title above: “What you don’t know WILL hurt you.”

Don’t spend all your time learning SEO, web design, and making products. If you don’t also learn and apply “knock their socks off” marketing techniques, your business will forever leave piles of money on the table.
