How to Build a Website – It’s MUCH Easier Now!

By

In the past the single biggest hurdle beginning Internet marketers faced was the actual construction of their website. Having a basic knowledge of HTML was required and/or a quality web editor like Dreamweaver. Even with a graphical editor like Dreamweaver the learning curve was still extremely steep. (When you finish reading this page, click here for my 4 Golden Rules of Keywords.

Fortunately, it is much easier now!

I made my last website with Dreamweaver quite some time ago. Nowadays I only use WordPress. Even though I’m very proficient with Dreamweaver, WordPress makes the process of creating attractive and very search engine friendly websites extremely easy. A time-saving aspect for using WordPress is tremendous.

Note: The website you are on right now is a WordPress site.

When using WordPress for your website it should always be hosted with your own host. In other words do not use WordPress’ free hosting service for your main website. That free hosting can be fine for smaller, secondary sites… but not for your main site. Hosting nowadays is extremely inexpensive and anyone serious about Internet marketing will have their own hosting account.

When hosting a WordPress website, it’s important to use a host that is compatible with WordPress. For example, GoDaddy is a fine company to use for purchasing your domain but their hosting is not well suited for WordPress. Many of the necessary WordPress plug-ins will not work well on GoDaddy servers.

A WordPress friendly hosting company makes installing WordPress extremely easy. I have a video below detailing that exact process. However, be aware that the initial WordPress install is not search engine friendly. There are tweaks and adjustments that must be made to the install in order to best optimize the site for search engines. For example, the plug-in called SEO all-in-one must be installed and configured.

One of the great benefits of using WordPress is the ability to easily create an extremely attractive and professional looking website. The WordPress admin panel allows one to pick between many hundreds of free themes. These famous are all very attractive and easy to install. However, it should be noted that three things come with no support. I’ve had enough experience using free themes to know that purchasing a theme, which always includes tech-support for that specific theme, is well worth the investment.

  1. Steve, I couldn’t agree more with your tips on WordPress. As usual you offer some good information to help us all get along with our online endeavours.

I might mention that Hostmonster is a really good host for anyone wanting to use a WP platform for their website or blog – and at a reasonable cost.

    thanks and cheers
    Pete

I am in the process of building a website. I have read that sitebuildit is great to build a website and comes with great built in features such as SEO, etc. They claim that 1/3 of their websites are in the top 1 % of the search engines. According to the website they have an auto responder and great tutorials to help the newbie to get started. I would appreciate any info that you can share about sitebuildit. If what I read is correct then this would help to jumpstart the learning curve.
Thanks for any input that you can share. I have read so many things about software that promise instant riches, however, your information makes it clear what I believe to be true. If it was as easy as the ‘gurus” then more people should be successful. I am thankful that there are honest people that tell it like it is. You cloud have easily pitched your products and said that we be making $ 30,000 per month within 6 months by jut pushing a button.

Thanks for nice comments Joseph…I appreciate it!

Man, I could write for hours on this one….but I’ll try to keep it short.

“….1/3 of their websites are in the top 1 % of the search engines.”.. What a deceitful thing they say. My question is, “…in the top 1% for what keyword”…?? Most people do not realize that almost EVERY web page lands on the first page for SOMETHING. Let’s say your biz is “Lanita’ Top Baby Names”. A child with no SEO knowledge could rank that on the first page….but so what?? Who knows to type in Lanita?

That’s what they don’t tell you about all their websites that “rank well”.

There is NOTHING special about their system that makes their sites any more search engine friendly than an optimized WordPress site for your domain. In fact, WordPress has a TON more SEO features than they do…and WP is free. All you do is pay for your hosting…4 or 5 bucks a month, and you get a full blown WordPress site.

They are just playing on beginners’ lack of knowledge and desire to find a shortcut.

Also, I don’t know of ANY successful Internet marketer that hits success with their first website try….not one. Maybe there are some, but in almost all cases other sister sites will be required or other niche sites all together. So what will do then? Pay them their high monthly fee for ANOTHER site? I don’t think so. Instead, you simply get $7.95 hosting (real hosting) and host unlimited sites on it for that one low monthly price.

SBI is WAY too expensive…period. …and for just ONE site

SBI folks are great marketers. But I’ve been interacting with many Internet marketers now for over 5 years. I honestly can’t remember anyone who had a successful SBI site. In fact, I’ve helped many folks move from SBI to a real host so they could have multiple sites cheaply and have a lot more flexibility than SBI offers.

If beginners would just “get it” and stop looking for shortcuts and simply learn how to find a niche, get some cheap hosting, build a real WordPress site (very very easy now days), and apply basic SEO, MANY more of them would have success before they got frustrated and quit while always looking for the next shiny object.

Sorry for the long venting….but it’s one of my pet peeves when marketers.

Steve, I’m a newbie to internet marketing and right now I’m trying to build up my basic skills like website building. I’m just starting to use XSitePro2 – well, learning would be a more appropriate term. Reading your comments about WordPress, does it mean I am taking a wrong path? Should I stick to learning how to do website creation using a software like XSitePro or just dump it and focus on using WordPress?

    -ks-

    Oops!
I just realised I entered the wrong website url. It should be a .org and not .com.

The .com was taken but somehow it’s always stuck in my head.

    Sorry about that.

Well, “back in the day”, we had Xsite and dreamweaver to chose from. I learned with Dreamweaver. I still use my Dreamweaver skills for making some sales pages, squeeze pages, etc. I am glad I know that side too. Plus, it helps just be creating the layout in the sidebars sometimes, etc.

But I personally, as well as countless others won’t make any more site with the old style web editors….it just so much easier and faster to make great sites using WP.

I agree, being a software engineer I always used to go down the HTML/ASP/PHP coding route. But that was madness and I use WordPress for all my sites now. It allows me to focus on what really matters, coding not being one of them. Thanks.

I’m a real beginner. I don’t understand all these questions you keep getting asking if this or that is the way to do it You say use WordPress because it the best way. If people believe in what you say, why would they then go out and try something else? I’m still reading through everything before I start. Thanks for everything so far.

Don’t just take my word for it….go ask around for what others think is the best platform today for building a beginning website.

Although I give away a LOT of info, I do promote some third party products that I use and find great value in.
Usually, I will receive a commission when these products are purchased from this site.
But as I said, I NEVER promote anything unless I find it valuable in my own business.
