Know All You Can About Your Current Traffic

By

One of the top questions I get from business owners is, “How can I get more traffic to my site?”

I always begin by asking them how much traffic they currently have and from where and how the visitors found the site. It’s amazing how many folks know almost nothing about their current traffic.

They may be able to tell me how many page views they get, but they often don’t know the difference between page views and “hits”. (There is a big difference.)

Google Analytics is free and every site should be using it or something comparable for tracking traffic stats. A site owner simply must know all he or she can about their site’s traffic.

Probably the most important reason for knowing those stats is that it is easier to increase traffic in the beginning by tweaking and better optimizing for pages and keywords that are already working somewhat.

Before simply adding more pages with more and more keywords, be sure that what is currently working is working the best it can. For example, when the analytics shows some traffic with a keyword to a page currently ranking on page 2, it is often a simple matter to tweak that page a bit in order to move it to page 1. Traffic to that page will often double or triple.

Although I give away a LOT of info, I do promote some third party products that I use and find great value in.
Usually, I will receive a commission when these products are purchased from this site.
But as I said, I NEVER promote anything unless I find it valuable in my own business.
